Western Hemisphere – Lion Pub, San Francisco

Lion's Pub

Lion's Pub

Unlike many bars today that try to look like a modern, over-the-top bachelor pad, the Lion Pub feels like an intimate gathering of friends in a well-worn home. There are many nooks and crannies where groups of people can actually have conversations without screaming, the dim warm lighting makes the environment private without needing night vision, and best part- there are free appetizers.

What's Up Dog?

What's Up Dog?

If nibbling on cheese and crackers isn’t satisfying enough, head on over to What’s Up Dog to grab a signature hot dog around 2 am when the Pub closes.  I had never been to this late night standing-only eatery, but my friends assured me that I wouldn’t be disappointed.  While I am not quite the sausage connoisseur, I loved having choices of over a dozen different varieties of dogs.

I chose the Sante Fe turkey sausage while my friends ordered specialties such as the Chicago that has a whole lotta everything, the North Beach with mozzarella and tomato sauce, and my favorite was the chili cheese fries that were smothered in gooey goodness.  And for all the veggies out there- no need to steer clear of the dogs, there is even a tofurky dog just for you.
